Week#16 - Curious Thymes

Hi again everyone,

This week I chose the restaurant and decided to try Curious Thymes at Science North. We've been to this location many times before when it was called something else. I made online reservations which worked out nicely. We had a nice table right by the window but if I go back to this restaurant I'll were a warm sweater because I could feel a wind draft which was quite cold.

I started the supper with a nice rum and coke. Louise had some blue drink of some sort which she didn't really enjoy. Too bad they didn't have pina coladas. We started off with a Pistachio & Coconut Crusted Jumbo Shrimp Lollipops and a Caesar Salad. The Caesar salad was topped of with goat cheese which was a nice change from a regular Caesar salad. We both had a Golden Roasted Stuffed Chicken Supreme which was very tasty. I ended cheating big time on my diet and had apple crisp for dessert. We really enjoyed the view of Ramsey lake but this was not one of our favourite restaurant so far.

Week#15 - Pesto's

Hello everyone,

I'm a week behind in my regular weekly review of restaurants. Last week Louise chose where we were going and she was hoping to go to the Fish Bowl on Lasalle. When we got there we realized that it was closed. Not sure if it went belly up but it was closed. So we ended up going to Pesto's in the Radisson Hotel in the Rainbow mall.

I had a T-Bone steak with a Caesar Salad and Louise had pickerel. The food was so so but we would not recommend this restaurant nor return to it. The biggest dissapointment for me was the steak was plopped on the garlic potatoes and didn't have much taste to them. Louise didn't enjoy her pickerel because there was a fishy taste to it. We still enjoyed our time together even though I was very tired from going to be way to late on Friday because of the dance. This week I get to choose where we go.

Week 14 - Red Lobster

Good morning everyone,

This week I chose the restaurant and we decided to dine at Red Lobster's on Lasalle in Sudbury. When we got to the restaurant there was a 30 minute wait as they were quite busy and we didn't have reservations.

Once we finally got in we started with a sunset passion colada. At 360 calories it was awesome, worth every calorie. We then ordered lobster, crab and sea food stuffed mushrooms. They were simply awesome and I could have eaten a bowlful.

For the main entrée Louise had the stuff sole with broccoli, rice and cheese stuffing. It was topped with creamy Alfredo sauce. She didn't particularly enjoy it and wouldn't choose that meal again. I had the endless shrimp diner. It came with a ceasar salad, baked potato and two types of shrimps. I chose garlic and linguini Alfredo. I really enjoyed my choice of diner.

The atmosphere was a tad loud and it was a bit cold at our table. Our server was very friendly but it took a while to get my second serving of garlic shrimp. We were quite surprised at how little it cost for our supper. We will certainly return to this establishment.

Week#13 - Pat and Mario's

Good morning everyone,

This week Louise choose our restaurant we we went to Pat and Mario's on Lasalle. It was an awesome dining experience. We absolutely loved the food. We started our supper with a pina colada. We ordered the special, a 5 oz filet mignon served with garlic sautéd shrimps, vegetables, a loaded baked potato and a caesar salad.

The caesar salad was very nice.  The garlic taste was evident and the signature sauce was very tasty. Our steaks were done to perfection and the shrimps were exquisite. The atmosphere was a tad loud. Our waitress did an awesome job and was very attentive. We would certainly recommend this restaurant as it's one of our favourites so far. Next week we plan on going to Curious Thymes on Ramsey lake.

Week#12 - Montana's

Good morning everyone,

We're back after a 7 week break. This past summer we decided to take a break from going out because we figured we wanted to spend more time at home with our kids. We ended up being quite busy with a host of activities such camping, a wedding and trips to Wonderland and Santa's village and wanted to enjoy our pool on weekends when we were at home.

Yesterday we went to Sudbury to shop at Costco's and decided to stay close for supper and went to Montana's. This is one of the regular restaurants we go to so we knew what to expect.

As always the food was awesome and the atmosphere was great. I really love inside of this restaurant because I like the wood beams and the cathedral ceilings. Last night was quite loud because many patrons were out celebrating birthdays.

We started off we the Shrimp Kapow which is marinated in a tai sauce. It is spicey but a nice appetizer. I had a the smokehouse pork ribs with fries and coleslaw. I decided on the large order and ended up not eating the fries and coleslaw because I was filled with the ribs. Louise had the goat cheese penne which consisted of chicken, broccoli, peppers, red onions and mushrooms tossed with penne in a goat cheese, tomato and roasted red pepper sauce.

The waitress messed up on the timing of our order and we ended up receiving our appetizer at the same time as our supper.  The manager came out to apologize and did not charge us for the Shrimp Kapow. We found the waitress to be disorganized as she forgot to come back to our table for a long time.

Last week I started looking at how many calories I'm consuming and I was blown away to find out the the ribs where well over 1600 calories. I'm trying to get back in shape so I might have to modify what I eat when I go out.

Next week Louise is choosing the restaurant so I'm not sure where we are headed next.

Week#11 - The Keg

Good morning everyone,

This week Louise and I celebrated our birthdays by spending the day in Sudbury and then having supper at The Keg. As always supper was simply awesome.

We started by having an order of mushroom Neptune and a spinach salad. The crab and cream cheese on the mushrooms was perfect. Unfortunately they forgot the vinaigrette on the salad and our waiter brought us some on the side. Louise had chicken Thai which was loaded with a variety of vegetables including zucchini, peppers and mushrooms. I had the rib steak which was cooked to perfection. Include with my order was a twice baked potato, some mushrooms and string onions.

A complimentary piece of Billy miner pie is always included on your birthday at The Keg. We had way too much food though, next time I will make sure I fast before going to that restaurant.

Louise and I went for our usual walk around Ramsey Lake, went and watched a 3D IMax movie and went to Chapters. All and all it was an awesome day as always. I am very fortunate to be speding my life with my soul mate.

Week#10 - Plucker's

Good morning everyone,

This week Louise choose the restaurant and we went to Plucker's in the South end of the city. This restaurant was suggested to us by the daughter of a friend of ours.

We enjoyed our supper as we always do and really appreciated the lighting, as it was very bright compared to most restaurant.

We had a Caesar salad, mushroom caps, onion rings and some chicken wings. The wings were a little small and overcooked but overall everything was fine. In my opinion the best Wings are still at Kelsey's. Plucker's is not our favourite restaurant but we still enjoyed our night out. We would certainly return to this establishment for lunch.

We topped off our evening with a walk around Ramsey Lake. Next week we celebrate our birthdays and as we always do we are going to the Keg. We're probably going to spend the whole day in Sudbury.

Week#9 - King's Buffet

Good morning everyone,

This week I was the one choosing the restaurant and I was in the mood for some Chinese food. We ended up having supper at the King's Buffet on the Kingsway.

We had some shopping to do so we had a late supper. The restaurant was more or less empty. After supper we sent for a walk around Ramsey Lake we needed it after eating so much good food.

I forgot to take a picture so I had to take one from the Internet.

Today I'm preparing supper for my dad. It will be fun. Next week Louise gets to choose the restaurant.

Week#8 - Casey's Bar and Grill

Good morning everyone,

Louise was away in Timmins last week to visit some family. She came back yesterday so she was tired and we didn't really have time to plan for our night out. We decided to go to Casey's on the Kingsway.

As always the service was great. Our server was really helpful in suggesting drinks and appetizers.  We started off with having a 5 fruit sangria and a Tornado Potato.  The serving was so big it could of been a supper for the both of us. We ended up bringing over half of the serving with us back home.

I was debating between having a steak or ribs and decided on the ribs because I figured I'd be cooking my own steaks for supper tonight. We were a bit dissapointed by the ribs because they were dry. Louise had honey mustard on hers and I had chipotle BBQ.  I hate to say that the best part of the supper was the coleslaw. It had a nice dressing on it.

If we ever return to Casey's I'd try their steak. We topped off the evening with a walk around Ramsey Lake. This walkway is our favourite place in the world. If I ever win the lottery I'm buying a house on Ramsey Lake.

Week#7 - Mr. Prime Rib

Good morning everyone,

Yesterday Louise and I went out for our weekly restaurant visit and this time we went to Mr. Prime Rib on Barrydown in Sudbury.  This was not our first visit to this restaurant because I remember going many years ago before we had our kids.

This is probably our favourite restaurant so far. The lighting was perfect and the noise was nice and low. We did not have reservations but we got a table right away. Our server was great as she came many times to our table to make sure we had everything we needed.

We started with a couple of drinks, Louise with a Pinã Colada and me with a Sling. We shared a Citrus Salad but I prefer a Caesar salad though but I was game to try something new.

Louise had the special, Prime Rib with roasted potatoes and vegetables and I had a Rib-Eye Steak with garlic mashed potatoes and sauteed mushrooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our night out and had time for some good conversations. We ended up visiting some old friends of ours in St-Charles and came home quite late. It was an awesome evening as always. The kids were great as they got along and took care of the little ones. Looking forward to next week's date as Louise is choosing the restaurant this time around.

Week#6 - Respect is Burning

Good morning everyone,

It was Louise’s turn to choose the restaurant and we went to Respect is Burning on Durham in Sudbury. We had reservations for 6:30 so we didn’t have to wait for our table.

We each had a drink, a Blue Lagoon for Louise and a Long Island Ice Tea for me. We started with a Caesar salad which was absolutely tasty. They use their own signature sauce; I would like to figure this recipe out.

Louise chose to have the BBQ’D Rack of Lamb and you can probably guess what I had, the BBQ’D Dry Rubbed Abruzzo Baby Back Ribs. The ribs had a very unique taste to them. I couldn’t figure out the spices used on them. I really enjoyed the potatoes as they were mixed with cheese. I could taste the rosemary mixed in with the vegetables.

We enjoyed our visit at Respect is Burning. The food was good and the service was awesome. We found the music loud at some times and the lighting a bit low. If we return we would try the SuperClub Italian Pizzas. Next week, I get to choose where we eat and I have no clue where we are going.

Week#5 - Wacky Wings

Good morning everyone,

After a two week break we returned to our project last night. I decided to try Wacky Wings on Shaughnessy in Sudbury. The restaurant looks very nice with lots of wood. Anybody who knows me knows that I love wood.

It is a loud environment with music blaring and noises coming from arcade type machines. This restaurant is in the middle of downtown Sudbury. They have a large patio deck to one side of the restaurant which allows patrons to have supper outside. This building would fit nicely in the country by a lake somewhere.

As the name implies Wacky Wings specialize in chicken wings. They have over 100 different flavours. Louise and I decided to share a Caesar salad and a sampler platter of wings which included flavours such as sea salt and pepper, honey garlic, garlic parmesan and sweet and spicy tai.

Overall we enjoyed our experience and would certainly return to this establishment.

Week#4 - Tommy's Not Here

Good morning everyone,

This week we went to Tommy’s Not Here. This restaurant is located on Regent Street in Sudbury. Louise choose the restaurant this week. We had hoped to visit this restaurant a couple of weeks ago but we needed a reservation. So far this is our favourite restaurant. The ambiance was perfect with soft music playing in the background and the lighting was very low.

We started with a couple of drinks and a nice appetizer consisting of a Portobello mushroom filled with various vegetables topped off with a slice of steak covered with a raspberry sauce. Louise had the Chicken Marsala and I had a Strip loin Steak with a Button Mushroom Skillet. The food was absolutely exquisite and we will certainly return to this restaurant.

Next week I get to choose where we dine and I still haven’t decided yet. We decided to take the scenic route back home by driving down highway 69 and then taking hwy 64 through Noëlville and Lavigne. I even saw one of my students walking on the side of the road.

Week#3 - The Apollo

Good morning everyone,
This past week was a busy one for all of us so it flew by.  Twenty year ago when I was in University I used to drive by this restaurant everyday and wondered what it looked like on the inside. Yesterday we finally went to the Apollo Restaurant on the Kingsway.
The ambiance was very romantic and the service was great. The host greeting us spoke to us in French. She even came back mid way though our meal to see how we were enjoying our experience. We started with a Caesar salad and a shrimp cocktail. The Caesar salad was awesome and had a lot of garlic in it.
Louise had chicken parmigiana and I had BBQ ribs. The ribs were overcooked and Louise found the chicken a little plain. If we went back to this restaurant we would try their Greek specialties.
Next week Louise chooses where dine. I figure we are going to Tommy’s not Here.

Week#2 - East Side Mario

Hi everyone,

I cannot believe how quickly this week went by. Thank God we got our snowfall on Friday and not Saturday because we would have dinned in Verner somewhere.  This week Louise decided where we were having supper. She chose Tommy's Not Here on Regent but when we got there we realized that we needed reservations. So we decided to have supper at East Side Mario's.

We had a 40 minute wait for a table, most of which we spent in the bar having a drink. I had a Caesar and Louise had a Pinã Colada. We sat at a small table for our supper and the food was absolutely great. We started with a Caesar Salad and a soup. The salad was one of the best I've ever had. For our main course I had Ribs and Wings and Louise had chicken Tetrazzini. The ribs where awesome but I found the chicken wings a little dry. Louise enjoyed her chicken Tetrazzini.

We would certainly recommend this restaurant. The only down side was when we were waiting for a spot in the bar, some patrons moved ahead of the line in front of people who where there first. They should give everyone a number on the way in and then have a more organized way of assigning seats in the bar.

Next week it's my turn to chose where we eat.

Week#1 - Buzzy Brown's

Hello everyone,

Welcome to the first post in our blog. Last night we dinned out at Buzzy Brown's. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. We sat in a booth and the only downside to this experience was that the booth was a little too small. Louise had twin filet migon and I had roasted chicken and back ribs. Next week Louise will choose where we eat.
